Blog Assignment

Your first on-line lesson has 3 parts.  You will read about blogs and how they can be used as a professional tool.  By the time you complete the assignment you will have authored your own blog!

First, review the following articles about how blogs can be used for professional development:

Next, read the following articles that describe what blogs are and why you would want your own blog:

Finally, visit blogger.com and set up an account.  Use the design option to select templates and insert text.  If you are in design and click advanced, you will have many more options to choose from, and you can change fonts, etc.

  1. Include links to health-related information and/or professional web sites.
  2. Include video, music, clip art, images, poems, and/or quotations that illustrate your philosophies as an athletic trainer.
  3. Add a separate page to your toolbar that includes your resume.
  4. Make sure your blog has a comments section and is inviting for visitors to peruse and leave comments.

For more those of you more advanced in on-line technology you might want to experiment with a relevant RSS feed on your site… for example the CDC, or another governmental health-related site and/or the NATA or another professional association.  The link below will allow you to read a document on how to add an RSS feed to your blog:

The rubric I will use to evaluate your blog is found on the class blackboard page.  Have fun, but remember that this blog is one you can actually add to as you continue your professional preparation program.  I encourage you to think of the blog as your on-line resume, and a place you can showcase work for future employers.  Keep this in mind when you name the blog and add content to it.

Last, you will need to sign up on my blog to 'follow' me.  Once students do that, then you will need to sign up to 'follow' the other students' blogs during the course of this class.
